Interested in different areas for a winter destination for 1 to 3 months. Using a 34 foot 5th wheel. We are not into the resort living and would prefer a rural setting close to fishing, an archery range, and maybe some hiking. Would like more secluded sites not right on top of each other. Would want hookups but dont need a whole bunch of ammenities. What would you recommend? Thanks

Holiday Park Campground, Traverse City, MI. Just south of town. Feels rural. Archery range next to Park on quiet road. Mega fishing in lake, especially Bass. Grounds have different feel, e.g., forest, tree lined, pull thru, etc., in various sections. Hiking is beyond description on the nearby State lands, which have trails next to beautiful lakes and streams. Full hookups, but not a lot of extra activities offered. Large shopping mall or semi-wilderness within a 7 minute drive, you choose. Walkable town, tons of food, many events and festivals. Make your own fun, and there is plenty to be had. Maybe that's why I've been going there for 40 years.

You didn't say what part of the country you were interested in, but you can get pretty much everything you are looking for at Blythe Island Regional Park and Campground in Brunswick, GA. They have a small catch and release lake and the park borders the South Brunswick River. There is an archery range within the park and there are hiking and biking trails in the park.The park is a county run park with a State Park feel. Sites are semi private. The park is less than 30 minutes to Jekyll Island with a lot more hiking and biking trails as well as fishing piers and a lot of history. St. Simons Island is just north of Jekyll Island with lots of good restaurants. Both Islands have plenty of Public Access to the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.Winter temperatures aren't as warm as Florida. It does sometimes get below freezing at night. February is usually the coldest month with a few nights with temperatures in the upper twenties. This winter we did not have a hard freeze and we only had a few nights with temps below freezing.Brunswick is about 1 hour south of Savannah, GA and 1 hour north of Jacksonville, FL, so there is plenty to see and do in 1 day without making over night excursions.-Michael

You really need to think about installing some solar panels and forget about hookups. There are so many secluded sites in AZ that you will never find them all.

We just returned home from 117 days in the southwest (CA, AZ, NV). Over 100 days we were unplugged. It is so nice to be out away from the RV parks.

I have been looking into this. Would love to be more off the grid, that is the kind of camping we really like.

All depends on what you consider cold. Since we are full time Arizona we think the winter is cold and head South into Mexico. You may think So. Ut. is warm enough.
