winter camping in warm climate

Want to spend January in a warm state near the water so was thinking about somewhere between Texas Gulf coast to Florida. Will be gone about 4-5 weeks. Would probably prefer some moving about rather than spending the whole time in one place even from one state to another Open to suggestions re side trips.

  • If you want CONSISTENTLY warm temps day and night you'll have to go all the way to Florida and as far south as Tampa at least. The Gulf coast is going to be cool/cold that time of year no matter what they tell you. Been there done that. Good luck.
  • Try to work in Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, Alabama. You won't regret it. Unlike the typical 2-week max. stay at state parks, here you can stay as long as you want in winter. Very nice beach, excellent seafood and restaurants, shopping and an overall nice area.
  • I am not sure what your interests are; but there are quite a few attractions and things to do around south Louisiana. Compared to where you are at it is mild here; however, we can get lows below freezing then. Check out LouisianaTravel.com for an overview of what there is.
  • Check out Bryn Mawr (OCEANFRONT) in St. Augustine Florida……not too hot not too cold and right on the beach. Lots to do close to the resort. Heated Pool and Hot tub near the beach. We are staying there from December 1st thru April 15th….We leave a few time to travel around florida ….Orlando 2.5 hours, Jacksonville 30 min. Naples 4.5 hours. They take MH's, fifth wheels and travel trailers.
  • Sorry I do not know what you have for a rig and what your requirements are as far as hookups.
    Also how warm is warm?
If high in the 60's and lows in the 40's are okay I would recommend camping right on the beach at crystal beach, High Island, TX. Nice shelling.
When we go we purchase the $10.00 that allows you to camp on the beach for up to a year. Every 7-10 days we go to a nearby Campground to do laundry and dump and fill tanks. My motorhome goes on the beach very nicely.
The permit allows you to camp on most Galveston county beaches without added charge

To get you started here is a link to Crystal Beach that will give you some info.
