- fchammer1ExplorerCrabby,
Red Coconut is about $100 per day and packed tight. You can be less than five miles from the beach at Imperial Bonita Estates for a whole lot less.
There is only one road out of Red Coconut, and at peak season traffic travels at a snail's pace. What you gain by being literally beside the sea, you will lose in time to go anywhere. From IBE, it is a straight shot to Bonita Beach Park
We spent one month at Fort Myers RV Park right on US 41 and visited every park for miles around. For us, IBE was the perfect blend of location, price, and activities (over 80). Contact me for a list of parks, addresses, and phone numbers. - CrabbypattyExplorerThanks for thre replies and placing this post in the right place! I am looking to put the rig on the waterfront for the winter. The gulf coast I saw something called Red Coconut in Ft Meyers. I need to be near an airport so I can leave the DW behind and fly up for work and back. Any other thouths would be appreciative
- Parrothead_MikeExplorerI'd like to first point out that Crystal River, FL (Rock Crusher Canyon) is not near the beaches, although there is one small beach outside of Crystal River. If you like beaches you need to look at Tampa, Sarasota, and points south.
We like Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River. It's cooler this far north of Tampa (about 70 miles), but there is less traffic and the prices are within reason (about $675/month). This is in an area of Florida called the Nature Coast.
Down in the Port Charlotte/ Punta Gorda area we stayed a week at Riverside RV (actually listed as in Arcadia, but much closer to Port Charlotte). Very nice park with plenty to do. The monthly rate at Riverside is much higher than Rock Crusher, somewhere in the neighborhood of about $1,200. The longer you stay the cheaper the monthly rate, which is the case for most RV parks.
I would suggest that you spend some time researching the areas you might consider staying for a week or longer. I use RV Park Reviews.com. You can select different cities and check out parks listed in that area and you can also connect with each park's website for detailed info. - Jack_Diane_FreeExplorerDunedin RV Resort is very nice. Right on the Pinellas trail with lots of restaurants and shops in the area. We often ride our bikes to Honeymoon Island State Park and even up to Tarpon Springs along the Pinellas trail. Nice area. Agree you should make your reservations now or you could be disappointed.
- JW_of_Opechee_SExplorerCheck out different places on Rvreviews.com but remember that we all have different taste and what someone might not like; might be just what you are looking for. Campgrounds along the coast will be tighter, more likely to be full and more expensive, but putting cost aside, just go and enjoy yourself nothing better than sunshine and warmth in the winter.

- spatbhoyExplorerFort Myers area has a ton of rv parks
- sdianel_-acct_cExplorerWe like Quail Run RV Resort in Wesley Chapel FL near Tampa. Expensive in the winter but they have a winter rate that if you pay in advance you get a much better deal. Old section has large trees not paved. New section out in the sun with paved level sites. Wifi good. New pool. Activities in winter. www.quailrunrv.com It does get cold there but only lasts a day or 2 then it warms right back up. About 25 miles to the beaches. Check into Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River FL if you want to be closer to the beaches.
- HappyKayakersExplorer IIIFirst, you might get better responses if you ask a moderator to move this post to the snowbirds forum.
Without knowing your likes/interests/family composition, it's nearly impossible to suggest anyplace. I might like a particular campground because it's close to rivers where I can kayak. You might want a campground that's within bicycling distance of a golf course. - Dog_FolksExplorerYou are smart to start considering reservations at this time of year. It is busy in the winter.
Florida is the 22nd largest state. It a wide variety of locations to explore.
Campground rates vary from about $350.00 per month to over $2,000.00 depending on location and amenities.
In general, the further south and the closer to either ocean (Atlantic or Gulf) you get, the more expensive the site costs.
I-4 which runs basically east-west across the state is generally accepted as the "frost line" south of that, frost is a rare occurrence in winter.
Hope this helps in your search.
