You do not really want to camp at the top of that pass. I can remember going over it many times often in snow storms. It is a tough one most of the year. The lights quit on my truck once and I ended up in Monte Vista when it was abut 15 degrees below zero. The local cop said "we can put you up downtown." We spent the night in jail. We were young then and didn't have much money. The Deputy locked us in and asked what time we wanted out. We said "0500."
