- moishehExploreralmcc: That was reported on this forum about 5 or 6 years ago. It happened in BC. I did a search but could not find the story.

Not sure where you are getting this info from, but insurers (at least at RBC Insurance where my wife worked as a claims examiner) had to find an available hospital bed before they transported a patient back to Canada, they just didn't dump them at the emerg room door. - moishehExplorerSky Med was around that price. It is discounted at the flea markets in Yuma. Most travel health policies include air evac. The insurance company would sooner pay the air evac than pay for medical procedures. They often will put you on a scheduled flight for minor procedures. One think to keep in mind is that you may return to Canada via air evac and then have to wait to be hospitalized.

Moisheh. What Air Evac policies do you know of for that price? Is this from Mexico or are there some available from US to Canada? Do they have stable pre-existing condition clauses?
Geos does. Only to age 75 - mayo30ExplorerWe as Canadians pay a very high price for our medical costs through very high taxes.Nothing is free. What I meant in my prior post was that the insurance companies are paying for that cardiac incident of $100,000.00 US with a .75 Canadian dollar versus paying for the same incident when the Canadian dollar was $1.10 to the US dollar.A huge difference that the share holders are not going to swallow for long. And I can tell you that any seemingly mild, routine or minor cancer if it can ever be called that will be a reason to not cover you or deny a claim.Don't fall down or anything and think they are not related!!Are you aware of the side affects of the medications you are taking or have taken for it/Dizzy etc.Read all you can and be very careful.Yes fuel is cheaper but I don't want to keep driving around to save all that money.lol.
- joegrayExplorer IIOP Here. The wife and I are going to head down for 2 months in early Jan. As others have said, we will be cutting back on our expenses, fewer dinners out and a lot less touring around. I think we will stay put in Yuma and save some fuel. Hope everyone has a great warm winter. Gray
- tobanExplorerThe difference in the cost of the fuel alone won't even come close to offset the exchange on the U.S. money for 4-5 months.

- moishehExplorerTequila: Here is the wording for the Lewis and Lewis policy:
"INTERNATIONAL AIR MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION. International Air Medical transportation in an air ambulance when the Company medical team along with the doctor assisting/attending the Client determines that the life threatening illness or injures cannot be treated in a Mexican hospital. This service is restricted to hospitals in San Diego, CA (USA), Houston, TX (USA) and Vancouver, BC (CANADA), without cost to the Client. In case the Client decides on transportation to a hospital in a different country or city, independently of his/her health, The Company will assist him/her with options for transportation and the client will pay all necessary expenses."
If you have a heart attack they are not going to fly you anywhere but a Mexican hospital! Decent Air Evac policies are about $300 to $400. These will fly you back to your own province.
Moisheh - John_JoeyExplorerInteresting thread. Wish we could all be around a campfire with our favorite beverage instead of this form of conversing.
