X-2, I don't like being on someone else's schedule. ;)Alan_Hepburn wrote:
We were there this past summer and rather than deal with driving, parking, timing, etc. we elected to take advantage of the pros: Yellowstone Vacations tours - they use a 24 passenger bus and get you to all the major stops in an all-day excursion. We got to Yellowstone Falls in time to see the rainbow at the foot of the Falls, and got to Old Faithful just before it erupted. We also had the added attraction of seeing Beehive Geyser erupt right before Old Faithful. You board their bus in West Yellowstone at 8:00 am and return to their garage around 4:00 pm - if you're staying in West Yellowstone they will pick you up and drop you off.
Might work for some .............But....:h
Think it is Definitely the Schedule that is the issue - Some 30+ years ago on a trip with the boys and one cousin "Schedule" had 4 days to do the 2200 miles back - we started out of Yellowstone to head Home at 8 in the AM - only to spend the entire day checking on all the spots we had Missed earlier in the week - so around 8 that PM we had made it to Cody - Being young and trying to stick to the Schedule we (I) continued driving East - This was before the Forum and all the shared info - so straight across RT 14 we went, full Moon and all so we had some idea what we were missing think it was around 2 in the AM we started down the far side of the Big Horns to see the Northern Lights - OMG - Beautiful - Thanks Goodness for No Schedule - didn't wake the Boys and are reminded every year, that they Missed It.
So Moral of the story - you can't see it all - Period. Do as much as you can and You will LOVE IT, Nature at it's Best.
8 Days later we arrived home having see Oh So much more than we had "Scheduled". - :B

- RickLightExplorer IIILast June we did several days leaving the trailer in W Yellowstone, and driving in.
+1 to all above.
There is beauty and wonder in every foot of the park! Don't hurry, enjoy where you are while going somewhere just as great. - Tyler0215ExplorerStay at W. Yellowstone.
Get up before dawn and hit the park at first light. The park starts to get crowded about 10 am. - ppineExplorer IIYou will be commuting to the park in a lot of traffic.

The best is Grizzly in West Yellowstone; there are other nice ones in West Yellowstone. It's about a 30 minute drive depending on what animals show up along the way.
And depending on traffic on the West side. - Dick_BExplorerYou did search this Forum for Yellowstone in the RV Parks section, right?
- Pangaea_RonExplorerWe also like Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone.
When you are driving, get started early in the day to try to beat some of the crowds. Talk to the Park Rangers about special places to go that may have fewer visitors. We were directed to a short hike to thermal pools and small bubbling geysers where we were by ourselves. The rangers said that you can go up next to the pools if you see bison footprints around.
Try not to get too upset with foreign tourists parking in the dedicated RV spots with their rental cars at many of the sights, but you do have permission to take away and destroy "selfie sticks" from those visitors.
My mother grew up in Butte, MT and I been going to the park for over 60 years ago. My cousins worked in the park and I would often stay with them there during the summer. I have stories to tell.
