Yellowstone and a dog?

Take your dog on a leash and hike around. The NPS has a lot of rules, but usually you can bring a dog anythere there is pavement. There are also plenty of dirt roads you can use to get off the pavement and run your dog for awhile without a leash.

On my trips to Yellowstone, I would leave my buddy in the coach. My routine was to be gone only 4 hrs, returned for 2, then back out for 4. This was my routine whenever I left the coach so he was used to it. We traveled together for 8 years.

Been a few years, but there was a doggie day care in West Yellowstone. Google it.

Check with KOA. One of them had kennels. Been a while ago. Believe it was Yellowstone park KOA

The above link on pets in Yellowstone should definitely be read. It also lists area kennels.

I can just see some poor dog chasing a tossed ball and dropping into a hot water pool there in Yellowstone.

I recommend leaving pets back home with either a house/pet sitter or family/friend. Best is to have a family member stay at our house so the pets are less stressed over the whole deal.

And that does not mean to leave the dog in the trailer all day at the campground.


Also beware of the busy bodies. I have come back to my truck 3 times in the last 5 years to a LEO encounter for leaving our Chowlab in the truck for 30 to 45 minutes. Common sense nor actual conditions, such as 45 degree ambient temps on a cloudy day, or the truck running with A.C on, did not matter to the busies who called them in. At least every time the officer had common sense.

Ok to be fair out of three times only two were busy bodies, the last was some liberal 19yr old college girl whacko from Ohio U in Athens OH, who jumped in my face while exiting Denny's, and came about as close as anyone ever has where punching a woman in the face is concerned.
