Yellowstone Mammoth CG in Mid October

I understand that this CG is open year around. Has anyone here camped at Mammoth mid October and if so, what's the availability of sites here and the weather? We're thinking of first traveling to SW Montana then on over to Mammoth via Gardiner. We are self contained with solar panels and a catalytic heater so cool/cold fall weather is not an issue, but it's nice to know in advance what to expect. Thanks.
  • Jayco-noslide - thank you for the feedback. We can handle fall weather - mid to upper 50's to low 20's if we have some sunny days. Sometimes here in Idaho we have a full month of October that's sunny, but cold at night and we camp in it. Yes, we know there are no hook-ups. I checked both Campendium and campsitephotos.com and noted that quite a few sites can handle longer lengths. Someone there noted that the hosts or rangers are good at assigning sites based on your length. Is that so? How early do we need to arrive to be assured of a good site for us? Thanks!
  • Great campground. No doubt you know there's no hook-ups. But nice sites, bathrooms, etc. Oct. is getting a little borderline if you like it summery but probably would be a great time most years. A few things in the Park may be closing. Altitude there is less than most of the interior. In years past we've always got a site even in busy season by getting there mid- morning but we've learned to not take that for granted any more anywhere or time. I don't think you can reserve Mammoth. We worked at the Mammoth store 3 summers.
