We took 2 of our kids to YNP back in 2007. We camped in West Yellowstone for 4 days, Tetons for 2 days, then to Bridge Bay in YNP for an additional 4 days. We are not a hiking family, due to disabilities but we were able to see a lot from the roadways. We visited all the hotels, driving around with our picnic basket and stopped where the moment hit us. We waded in the Yellowstone River and ate grilled cheese sandwiches at the Fishing Bridge café while our clothes swished in the laundry. We ate ice cream cones on the second floor deck of Old Faithful lodge, watching with an unobstructed view as Old Faithful erupted. We went on the Chuckwagon adventure and sang along with cowboys at the campfire. We saw a momma bear and her cub while horseback riding through the forest.
For us, 8 days were not enough. It was probably the highlight of our lives and we can't wait to get back there again. YMMV
