When we lived in Central Idaho, we would often travel through the Park for a day or more. We were fortunate to live close enough to be able explore small parts of it on many different trips. One time a few years ago we decided on the spur of the moment to spend a couple of days in the Park. We lucked out and got a cancellation at the Old Faithful Inn. After a fairly restless night (caused by a very loud lady in the adjoining room), we got up at about 6. It was too early to go in breakfast, so we decided to take a walk. Just a short stroll out the door of the Lodge. We meandered from geyser to paint pot to geyser taking some fantastic photos which I later enlarged for our walls. You can't imagine how surprised we were when we discovered that the nearest signpost informed us we had wandered over three miles from our breakfast! It didn't matter a bit, but I can tell you that the food and coffee we had when we got back was probably the best ever!
On another short trip, my sister was visiting from California. We called and got a reservation early in the morning and headed out as soon as we could. Only problem we had was that we were so excited about getting that room that we managed to leave the suitcase sitting at home by the phone when we made that call. Here we came, right up to the front desk of the Inn...two ladies who had to tell the desk clerk that we had no luggage. Washed out our unmentionables in the room and bought clean t shirts to wear the next day and had a wonderful time.
