You need to read and understand the history of manifest destiny to understand the allure of Yellowstone. Read the first accounts of Yellowstone and the backlash those authors received. Look at Bridger's story and the way people viewed him; they flat out called him a liar. If that doesn't interest you then no big deal.
We have found that a lot of the "destinations" of the west are a carry over from the early west marketing from the railroads. There are many nicer and more scenic spots to visit but nothing like Yellowstone.
