Some helpful comments, thanks. And a few that were less than kind; no big surprise around here.
I thought there would be more people giving specific locations in the park that they found exceptional. Instead the consensus seems to be, "stop and smell the roses," or in other words, get out and hike and spend time soaking up the ambiance. Well, that is true of most parks. I'm only good for about 3 or 4 miles max on a hike (round trip), so that might be a limiting factor for me. I hope to return to the Tetons next summer, so I will figure on spending at least 3 days in Yellowstone if possible. Maybe it will rub off on me. If not, well, I'll catch up on my sleep. ;)
We found it took 3 days just to figure out the rhythm of the animals and tourists. Animals are out around 6 am. we were driving by 5 am. looking for bears and wolves. tourists arrive from town at lunch time. we were back at camp by then.
hiking is better in CA and Utah but Yellowstone has wildlife and the geisers. we watched a pack of wolves chase a herd of elk. awesome!
you can see what we did while there on my blog.
