One of my favorite stupid tourist questions I was asked the summer (1977) I was a Park Ranger on the Avenue of the Flags at Mt. Rushmore.
Tourist: " Where do they put faces in the winter?"
Me, straight-faced: "In the basement of the Visitor Center"
Tourist: "Did you hear that, Martha? The ranger said..."
My experience as a park ranger taught me that the collective IQ of a group of tourists is a very, very small number. There's just something about getting away from home for a period of time.
