We enjoyed a couple of stays at Balmorhea State Park, located in the foothills of the Davis Mountains southwest of Balmorhea and nearby Fort Davis. A favorite because of the uniqueness of the huge spring feed pool with a modern-like swimming pool attached to it. A natural pool which is deep enough for scuba diving. All in very arid West Texas. Not really a super lush campground, but neat place.
We had a great time at South Llano River State Park which adjoins Walter Buck Wildlife Management Area, south of Junction. Very beautiful setting, the South Llano River to play in (nice clear water, rocky bed) what's not to like. We even canoed to Junction.
The great waterfall(s) & neat wooded campsites at Pedernales Falls State Park in Blanco County east of Johnson City made a great stay as well. Neat day trips to Johnson City, LBJ's Ranch, the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site & Fredericksburg made it very rewarding. Yep, a favorite.
Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site, located west of Comstock near Langtry in Val Verde County, not been to it but seems pretty neat. I have this one on my to see list someday. Likewise,
Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway would make a neat place to check out. One I would like to see.
Haven't been to too many and has been many years since camping in them.
