Gdetrailer, I agree 100%. When you rebuild your trailer, you can fit everyting in, and add insulation if needed for soundproofing or better energy efficiency.
Yes, many apartment size fridges 7cf and up, are too deep for a standard size cabinet with 6.3cf propane fridge. Some are too tall. Those that are not too deep or too tall - in 7cf size - are few and far in between, and some require 5" clearance on the sides and others (like Igloo) are getting terrible reviews. There is a wild west in this industry, unknown compressor makers and energy ratings pulled off the top of one's head. There is more order in 12V group, they at least all (with few exceptions) use German made Danfoss compressor.
4.5 cf fridge will fit, and there are some 2-door models, but this is a bit small for a longterm stay, and they consume nearly as much as 7cf fridge. Makes sense getting the biggest that fits.
1-2.5 cf single door fridge is a joke. Freezer tray is useless and the entire box has terribly uneven temperature distribution.
Yes, I would not replace a $400 cooling unit when everything else is rusty and nearing the end. A new 6cf RV fridge isn't always $1,800 though: $1,320 6cf. This is still too expensive, and I would rather get a 12V built-in 6cf compressor fridge like Novakool for the same price. Or 3 times cheaper 120V fridge if it fits, and if it's not too loud, and if I'm on power grid. Too many "ifs".
First obstacle is still the cabinet size.
