A less-leaky vent plug for plastic water jugs -- simple job
(This project is pretty far from rocket science, but it fills a need.)
We use Reliance water jugs from Walmart. They are pretty good, except for the standard plastic vent plug, which leaks, especially when we are bouncing around on a rough road. The existing plugs were made of hard plastic, which did not form a perfect seal with the vent hole:

So I got some 3/8 external diameter clear tubing, folded it over, and used a small cable tie to secure the fold. A short cord then ties the plug to the handle of the jug. This is what the plug looks like:

I drilled out the holes in the jugs to be 3/8. The tubing fits tightly into the hole:

One added advantage -- because I had to enlarge the existing hole, the jug pours faster than it did before.
Also, the folded-over tubing provides a good grip, for shoving the tube into the hole and pulling it out.
