Go look around the LOWES store electric dept... I have added a regular PVC Electric box and drilled out a large center hole in it. Then I can mount the MALE outside connector in it to plug the female end of a HD extension cord in... All weather tight...
The AMAZON link above looks like a neat deal too...
I too do what you do with my storage door. I can run the flat 3-wire extension cords under the storage door weather seal and can close my door without any problems... No harm to the flat extension cord at all... Then I finally installed the PVC electrical box and mounted the proper 20AMP outside male plug with lid in that. I also have a regular 120VAC 20AMP receptacle with a lid next to that is fed by my 1500WATT PSW Inverter on my off-road POPUP. Here I can run a short 15A-30A adapter to allow my 1500WATT Inverter setup to feed my 30AMP shore power connection.. Sort of like this drawing of mine shows... The middle connector/plug is the 30A Shore Power Connector and the connector plug on the bottom right is the 120VAC OUTPUT connector fed by my 1500WATT PSW Inverter. This pictorial shows the different ways I connect 120VAC to power up my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer. This is my poor mans transfer switch...

This is my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer floor plan that shows where things are mounted inside the trailer... In this trailer I run my 120VAC HD Extension cord thru a window flap to connec up to the camp ground 20AMP Pedestal connector to run my oil-filled electric heaters inside.
