we love our new (to us) 2001 carriage cameo and it has tons of features we really like.but dh keeps banging his head on the overhead cabs above the sink. we're thinking we may have them removed and wonder if a good custom shop can add a slightly larger window in that space. we donated the heavy sofa sleeper which came with the cameo and intend to install a long narrow cabinet under the window in it's space, so we won't be losing any vital storage by removing the upper cabs.a taller window there would be nice if it's not terribly difficult for a custom shop to do properly.what do you think?

Should be possible but pricy. Depends on who you have doing it of course. Finding a window that matches the ones already installed might be difficult.

I think it can be done. Now finding a quality shop in your area may be a issue. Might want to plan a few week trip to Indiana. These guys did some paint work for me a few years back and was very happy with their work. Don't know much about their interior side of the business. Randu

Add a window-SURE! You can even add a slideout. Truth is-a trailer is not any different than a stick house. You can add/remove/remodel anything you choose. Just keep this in mind. Before you go cutting holes in walls. You must first remove interior panels so you can see "exactly" where the wiring and wall studs are. Then you can remodel accordingly.I think the main concern is "as mentioned". Finding a window that looks like your existing windows. Also (after you know where your studs are-and wiring has been redirected), finding a window the right size-that looks the part.

Issue may be any wiring that is in the walls? If you cut the opening larger, they could cut something that shouldn't be cut!!!:(If you are sorta handy, you can order a window, and break out the saber saw, and cut out the side yourself...lots of folks have done it themselves.

I added a window to the back wall of our travel trailer. Much simpler than I was expecting. Mine is aluminum skinned over 2x2 wood framing. Kind of scary cutting that initial hole, but piece of cake after that.

I found out it will not be too hard. Got a hold of the maker of our 5ver and they sent me a diagram of the wall where I want to install a window.

I thought of adding a small window in our water closet. On a damp humid day I can see from outside the MH where the wall studs are located. As of yet my DW will not allow me to cut a hole in the wall.

i'd only go somewhere with an excellent reputation and experience as i'm not a penny pincher when it comes to this stuff!
adding the taller window over the sink and another where the tv corner is will make an enormous difference in view and usability for us.

Trailers really aren't built the same as a typical house, so while you can do most of the same upgrades, you just need to go about it different. Typically the cabinets are screwed into the studs from the outside, IE before the trailer is sided. I don't know how fiberglass siding is attached, but Al. is just stapled on, it's not a big deal to remove and replace. If you do take it off, just be careful with the longer runs so they don't twist and bend. Good luck with your mods.

I really hate to the fly in the ointment but....the strength of a trailer is not only the frame...its in the walls and the bracing in the walls themselves. You cut out a piece of that framework, you could be creating a weak point in the construction. Check with the trailer manufacturer before proceeding...please.

If you increase the vertical size of the window and wish to have that increase ABOVE the existing window's height, a new window header will have to be installed. A larger RV window will typically have a header of 3 1/2"-5 1/2" above it.
