Allure Flooring

I have done it twice and will never do it again - in Desert temps it lasted less than a year in both cases.

If you can, go for a glue down engineered wood - I am doing mine this winter with it (in bamboo). More expensive, some skills needed but by far the best.

I know some folks have had problems with the Allure glue-edge products and Allure Ultra, the click-edge variety. I was considering it for my trailer but read some really bad reviews about the off-gassing of the vinyl. The mfg. now states the flooring is made with 15% recycled vinyl from known source (in Indonesia). That wasn't their position a few years ago.

I installed a laminate flooring and it is holding up well so far.

Installed the glue together Allure last summer and have some gaps. Had I known then what I know now, I would have made a big template out of taped together cardboard floor protector (HD: Ram Board 38 in. x 50 ft. (158 sq. ft.) Temporary Floor Protection Roll) and used as a template for roll sheet vinyl. The Allure was difficult to get to cut to fit with all the different angles and directions. We started in the hall and worked to the front. I ended up with gaps along the cabinet fronts so am now cutting quarter round to cover them. That's a job in itself getting them to fit as well.

The instructions give a temperature range and anything above 95 degrees the glue will fail and it will separate.

I installed Allure that you snap together. So far I am very happy. I have not had the moving that others have indicated. I installed in March of this year. I have traveled around 1000 miles on interstates and some pretty rough roads. Also weather in extremes from 20 to 100 so far. Everything seems to be just fine and we LOVE the floor. So easy to maintain compared to carpet and everyone has oooowwwed and aaaaawwwed when they see it.

Home Depot told us no warranty if installed in RV - although many had done it successfully. We are on year 3 with no issues. We get huge temperature swings here but don't often get as hot as Texas does.

I was considering the Allure but will go another route now-
What is the consensus regarding the right product to use?

the glue down will lift up at the seams as to make sweeping across the joints nearly impossible. Pergo style snap together is much better but still has some gapping at end joints due to expansion and contraction from heat and cooling. Slidder makes small scratches at times if floor is not clean, but 200% better than carpet.

There is a true expert on IRV2 who does this for a living - he swears by glued down engineered hardwood and his work looks phenomenal. That's what I will be doing this winter.

Considering his prices and his work quality, I am sure he knows more than most about how it stands up to RV wear and tear.

I installed the Allure Ultra (snap together) from Home Depot, the main living area, kitchen and the bathroom. We love it. We are boondockers as we NASCAR a lot. It has withstood the Texas heat, the wear and tear of sand on the beach and rough roads. Just did a Oklahoma trip, where roads are rough, and it worked well. No issues. I installed it myself and took my time. You need to make sure every staple has been extracted, not just hammered in. I highly recommend it for our usage.
