Allure Flooring

I have the RV at a repair shop having the flooring replaced due to water damage. I purchased Allure flooring at Home Depot after reading some reviews on the product. Today the guy at the shop said I need to exchange this product because it sticks down and it won't be good in the long run. He said he wouldn't stand behind it if I went with it. He wants me to get one that just snaps together.. Has anyone here had experience with Allure and how long have you had it?
  • I put in Allure last spring in my 2000 Coachmen Santara Class C. Very disappointed. It is separating at the seams and has lots of scratches. Should have used sheet vinyl.
  • RVs can experience a large temp. extreme from summer to winter and the flooring will shrink and expand, and can pull the joints apart. The interlocking version of Allure is the one to use so that it is free-floating. There are other brands around too and some may be better quality.

It is VERY important to ensure that there is an expansion gap not only around the entire perimeter of the flooring, but also around floor vent cutouts, table leg flanges, entry door sill, toilet, etc. Failure to do this can lead to some of the planks pulling apart. You will need a baseboard of some sort to cover the expansion gap. I installed interlocking laminate in a previous TT and it pulled apart near the bed because I didn't make the expansion gap quite large enough. I redid that area and it's been fine ever since (sold the TT to my BIL who lives in an area of wide temp. extremes).

Sheet vinyl flooring even though free-floating, sometimes cracks in areas where the temp. gets really low. It can shrink enough that it typically cracks/tears at stress points like floor vent openings. The effect of summer to winter temp. extremes should not be ignored.
  • Its a floating floor, and it needs to be free to expand and contract as temps change. It you nail it down in more than one place, its going to separate or buckle when it needs to. I've had mine down for about 5 years and have not had any separation issues.
