Another flooring question but with a photo

I'm getting ready to replace the flooring on the main floor with laminate plank and have a quick question. In the photo, how far under the slide-out floor does the flooring have to reach? And, is it necessary to add trim on this side? If it is, how is it done because there's not any room to work with under the slide-out floor?

On this photo, I put a red line showing where I was going to make the flooring go because it would be under neath the slide-out floor and the carpet. Am I on the right track or what should I change?

Thanks everyone,

Mike

  • Sounds like a great project. I have flooring that's similar to your and the wood look would really warm it up I think.
Post us a pic when you get her done!

  • Thanks Scott, I've always wondered if the slide-out still had room to go so I'll check it now because that might affect the width of the flooring.

Yes, I mean the thin, interlocking vinyl planks around 3mm thick.
  • Your slide is built like mine but has not been adjusted to go all the way out. If it did you would see that the beveled edge where your green line is will nest in a corresponding beveled surface that's formed by a molded plastic part. You can see it in this pic of my slide - it's the white part.

My slide is adjusted to go out almost too far but it fits better that way. (I added the roller)
You should be able to butt the new floor up to that plastic part. The plastic sits a bit high of the floor so the slide wont catch the flooring material.
So the short answer to your question is yes, your plan should work fine. But I would try to push it all the way to the plastic guide to make sure it's protected from the slide catching it as it comes out.

Question: By "laminate plank" do you mean the thin stuff that's about as thick as vinyl flooring (1/16") or do you mean the stuff that's about 1/4" thick or more? I don't think the thicker stuff will work in your situation because the slide will grind across it.
