SOUNDGUY - My HDTV's scans for ANALOG first and then DIGITAL.
They're all different ... I've got 2 sets running in the house, normally on cable, and the one in the camper that normally runs OTA and when scanning I can choose either analogue or digital or both.
No question, once the switch to digital was made probably the majority of stations switched to UHF transmission but there sure was a lot of angst from the broadcasters because they didn't want their long known VHF identity lost to the public which had become accustomed to that VHF identity. Salvation was in the form of the "virtual" channel in which a station that might have in the analogue days transmitted on say VHF Channel 5 would still show up on television sets on Channel 5 and still be known to the public as "Channel 5" even though actual transmission was occurring up in the UHF band. Most wouldn't know or care but when it comes to receiving OTA signals this issue does become of great importance as it's just that much more difficult to receive a decent UHF signal over any distance, particularly if one isn't using an antenna designed for sensitivity in the UHF band. Winegard's answer was to offer the Wingman UHF add on for the Sensar III VHF antenna
and to also release the combination as the Sensar IV, which is what both you and the OP have. Regardless, there are still stations transmitting digital television signals in the VHF bands and there still is some analogue transmission.
