Hi Mike,
Continuous duty on an ordinary alternator is about 1/3 of total capacity.
For short periods of time 100% can be used.
The problem is overheating which may cause the diode to fail.
There are external diodes that can be put in a cooler area than beside the engine that may be used.
I don't think there will be much of an issue.
