Cheap pink antifreeze at ACE

Don't know if it is national thing or not, but our local ACE Hardware store has Camco pink stuff on sale for $2.99 with an additional $1.00 off if you have one of the ACE loyalty cards .....
  • I've used the cheap pink stuff for many years with no ill effects. I blow the lines first, then suck the antifreeze through and then blow it out.
I tried an experiment with the -20° stuff. I put a fresh gallon jug into the freezer alongside a jug of the stuff that I collected when I blew the lines. The new jug was just slush while the reclaimed was frozen solid and the jug was swollen. Just goes to show how much water was left in the lines after a really good blow.
  • TY for the heads up!!! Have to check our local store though I am set for this year. Can't hurt to look into for next year though!

I blow the lines out,add the link stuff, then blow the lines out again. The p traps I can get to easily (sinks) I remove and dump the water out before pumping the pink juice into the lines. Less water in the holding tank and less pink juice to make sure the p traps are protected.

I too do the blow out method for my OFF-ROAD POPUP water system.. Purchased two gal of the pink stuff from WALMART back in 2008 to pour down the P-traps and haven't opened the second gallon yet.

    Works for us as well...

The two that I've found without alcohol are. Star Brite and Zecol 100 plus antifreeze.

In searching for an antifreeze without alcohol I also found out that the -50 antifreezes claim of burst protection to -50 is burst protection for copper pipe not plastic or PVC. From what I've read -50 only gives burst protection for plastic or PVC to somewhere between -10 to -15.

That being said I've used -50 antifreeze in my boats and campers for years without incident. For an extra 3 to 4 dollars a gallon 8 to 12 dollars a winterizing I've switched to the -100 antifreeze.

However there is a two gallon limit!!!!

We maintain camps here in the Adirondacks and have to drain water systems after a renter leaves......we buy this by the case when it is on sale!

Have to agree with Wildcat 2008 on this it will dry out you seals. RV antifreeze also lubes your black and gray slider valves.

  • I've used this the last two years in both our 5th wheels and it's cheap and works well. I was waiting for this years sale, but didn't know it was on yet. Thanks for the heads up.
