Comverter size

Hello guys, I'm new to this forum and just got my first trailer. I'm doing the typical upgrade to two 6v T-105's and I'm also going to upgrade to a IOTA charger. I want to get charge voltages closer to what the Trojans like, and charge in minimal time. My question is about the size. My generator is rated at 33amps, and the trailer has 30 amp service, so is there any point in getting a charger bigger than a 30 amp? Is the stock WFCO likely a 30 amp? I haven't taken it out to eyeball it yet.

As a side question, it seems like it would make sense to locate the new charger closer to the batteries. Comments?

Thanks !

  • I would suggest one of these from Best Converter PD-9260
Rating is the output not input.
I would not move it just make sure the wire between the 12 volt distribution panel is large enough. 60 amps I would make sure it is a multi-strand #4. Make sure wire (ground) from battery to the frame is at least as large.
  • Ok, I see know that I confused output amperage with input amperage. The Iota dls-55 puts out a max of 55 amps DC, but consumes a max of about 14 amps AC.
