Window air conditioners are a poor application in an RV because the have to protrude through the structure to get effective air flow. This means that to install in a side, they have to be withdrawn for travel. If placed in the leading surface, there is frequently debris/bug issues as they are not protected from this.
I have seen several do as you are suggesting and all would have come out cash ahead to search for a used RV in good condition.

Thanks for the info. What do you mean about the leading surface and bug issue? I would cut a hole in the side of the rig and fabricate a bracket to "permanently" secure the AC unit for travel.
Why do think I would be ahead financially to opt for an RV AC unit? Pound wise (vs penny wise pound stupid) is the objective here, so saving money in the long run is what I'm about, but I'm not following. Are they more efficient/less time running?
