Eternabond question

I've just finished sealing all of the skylights, fridge flue, plumbing vents, antenna base, ladder attachments, front cap, and trailing edge with eternabond.

Not sure what to do with the port and starboard edges. The epdm roof membrane wraps around the side and is held down by aluminum trim. The top of this trim is no more than 1" below the roof edge. This aluminum trim appears to incorporate the rain gutter all in one piece. There are no penetrations on the top of the roof along the port and starboard sides. There appears to be a very thin bead of dicor along the top of the trim. It's a fiberglass sided Arctic Fox 25R if that makes any difference.

How would you deal with the side edges? eternabond? dicor? or, is external sealing even necessary on the side edges?
Thanks!
  • On our 96 Southwind I applied a strip of Eternabond along the entire roof edge and about 1/2" onto the rain gutter.

I use Dicor and or Eternabond anywhere there could be a potential leak.
  • If the roof membrane wraps over the sides and is secured by the rain gutters, there is no need to eternabond that. Water doesn’t run uphill. Even if water got behind the track it is already outside of the roof and walls.
  • One of our long time members, JBarca, has posted an extensive thread over on the Sunline Trailer forum where he is a moderator. He repaired his whole trailer with Eternabond and shows, in pictures, exactly what you are wanting to know. You can see his posts here.

  • My rig is pretty darn old (91) and I applied Eternabond on all the edges 15+ yrs ago. While the prep/application is kinda a PIA it works. No leaks.
  • Most everyone on this forum including myself swears by Eternabond but "AZ EXPERT" who has a Youtube channel doesn't think much of Eternabond. I was shocked to hear some of his remarks. Check out his videos about Eternabond and you'll see what I mean. AZ Expert Eternabond Opinions

He might be entitled to his opinion, but my opinion and now 12+ failure free years experience with Eternabond on my trailer in about every way one could imagine my opinion is AZ EXPERT is far from and expert and is again in my opinion bordering on being incompentent in using Eternabond if he has seen/had all the issues he claims.

I will bet a dollar that is not Eternabond! There is always that one person who says a great product is no good.

There is always that other person who when everyone is saying what a poor ripoff, junk product is. Will swear that they have been using it forever and it is the greatest thing since sliced bread!

Incidentally, being controversial, going against the grain is a great way to get hits on your website, blog, You tube channel. That is worth money!
  • But the Eternabond repairs look horrible. It's definitely better to not have leaks & it does take care of that, but I'd be looking for a solution that didn't look so bad. Not a big deal if it's up on the top of the roof, but I'd not want to use it around the edges.

There are far neater and visually pleasing than Eternabond tape.
