Generator Muffler Mods

Hey Gang, looking for input on a generator modification to quite down my Big A** generator.

I have the 2005 version of the Generac Wheelhouse 5500 and have been looking for ideas to fabricate some type of muffler extension or even a replacement muffler that would quieten the generator down considerably more than it is today.

Any thoughts appreciated.
  • There's YouTuber videos of guys welding truck mufflers to open frame generators and claiming dramatic reduction in noise. I remain skeptical.

If you're somewhere with soft soil, dig a foxhole for the generator. Let the earth soak up that sound.
  • is your generator a portable or mounted in a RV?
Modifying the muffler will help with the noise but, a lot of the noise is generated my the mechanical movement of the generator.

If it's a portable unit you can build a QUIET BOX. Check Youtube for ideas, there are several.
