Decal Making
"decal making" would be in the same category as a vinyl sign shop. Any of those guys can make these kinds of logos, or whatever you want. Yes, it takes training and special equipment but it's a fairly simple process once a person is trained in it.
To make this Winnebago Sightseer decal what I had to do was template it in a cad style graphics editor. Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw would be example of such. First I drew out the black outline shape. Next I created the Winnebago template and then I created the SightSeer wording in a curved font style. There are 4 layers here. Solid black on the bottom, a white backing behind the grey template, then a gold metal layer with the words SighSeer. These layers are formatted for a vinyl cutter and I cut these templates out of vinyl sheeting. Only the white backing behind the grey is reflective... but it's good enough to make a night marker for safety.
Then they are layered in a stack to build the whole image. The stack is bonded with adhesives and the whole "decal" is then placed on the coach after removing the graphics that were in place. I over lapped the original with this design so the light/faded parts would not be seen from the near full color tone image left over from where the original graphic was.
If you have a design in mind get with me and I'll help you with it. Any sign guy can do this but some (a lot of them) think they are brain surgeons or something when you get their prices. A long time ago I was in a show in Washington DC. I needed a single line of text which I had to get locally from a sign guy. For 45 mins of his time and $3.00 in vinyl he charged me over $100.00 which is outrageous but I needed it. If you had someone make what I did for myself it should sell for no more than about $100.00 tops. It's about $15.00 in material but I spent about 3 hours in design and fabricating so $100.00 for it would not be out of line. $200.00 would.
On the plus side, check with a couple of sign shops if you do it locally and you are better off having the artwork to minimize their time and get prices. One guy will charge $50.00 for what another guy wants $200 for.
Hope I explained it well.
P.S. THe forum did something strange. A fellow asked me what "decal making was" and I used the quote feature to reply. The quote was blank and the fellows message is now gone. Not sure how to reply to him or where his message went.
