IMO you can make it a bit more comfortable by having the seat dip a couple inches lower in back than in front, in addition to the angled back rest. I can't see any reason why not; the gaucho I had in my KZ TT was just a simple boxed area to sit on, and I always wished they had angled it like that. You might consider buying a futon cushion, if it matches the size you want to build.
