Heat in front cap of motorhome

Has anyone tried to insulate the front cap above the driver and passenger space on a class A motorhome. There are two openings behind the front mounted TV that allow heat and cold to come into the living area. Can I block these off?

  • Based on your ID, I'd say you may have a Tiffin unit and there have been many people who have installed insulation in the front of their coaches. You may want to go to here http://tiffinrvnetwork.com/ to ask the same questions as this web site is dedicated to Tiffin products, but is non profit forum not associated to Tiffin Motorhomes.
  • Mine came with foam sprayed on the fiberglass - much like what is done on hot tubs. That helps quite a bit but additional insulation would be good.
  • Yes, on our rig we were able to remove the inside of the cabinet and put in fiberglass insulation. Helps in cold weather.
  • We don't have any openings behind the tv, but we did notice that it is quite warm inside the cabinets on either side of the tv from all the electronic components that are in there and always on when we are parked. We leave the cabinet doors ajar so the heat can escape. Haven't noticed cold except from the windshield itself. We put up curtains that have an energy backing on them to help with both heat and cold from the windshield.
  • If you are talking a Class C the easiest way to cut down on the heat if that is your concern, is to simply cover the windows.

I covered the windows with truck windshield shades and that cut down the heat coming in dramatially. It also keeps the cold and the heat in when trying to heat the MH.
