Help needed shower mod

We purchased a 12 inch grab bar from Home Depot and added it just outside of the shower. It had three screws at the top and three at the bottom. Have not yet had a problem with the grab bar coming off, however, the wall is just a thin panel.

If the wall does not support it then we may add a nice 1 x 2 board running from floor to ceiling. Then sand and stain or paint it before re-mounting the grab bar.

Would a suction cup grab bar work for you? No holes drilled into possibly non-existant studs.

I think that is my question . How do I know if the walls are strong enough to add a grab bar?

If you have a free standing shower model. What I had to do was simply get a one step step stool from the hardware store and place it in front of the shower. Made a BIG difference in the ease of getting in and out of the shower for my poor ole knees! :C

I think she already has a shower.

I do not know the 275 DS. How stroong is the inner wall, by the door? Would you consider removing the tub and changing to a shower?
