Honda EU2000I parallel cable splice

I had 2 racks fabricated, one on either side of the spare tire, welded to the bumper of my TT. I designed these for carrying the 2 generators, plus gas containers, and accessories. However, one thing that I failed to consider was the length of the parallel cables. They reach and plug in, but they are stretched, and the ends are bending slightly. I'd like to splice in a 1 foot section, but am unsure about the process. Specifically, is it a special kind of wire, must it be a specific size, and is the oem length specific. Can someone share some knowledge on the subject?
  • Thanks all. I did see a few posts on google about making the cables, but none addressed the wire
  • There is info all over the net on how to make your own cables, I did it a few years ago. No big deal. Jim

Yah, that's lawyer talk. It's just 120v cable, nothing special. Some of us have even made our own and lived to talk about it.
  • Ah, the difference between a tech support guy who reads the screen in front of him and the engineer who actually knows what's going on. #BangHeadOnTable

Time to move Honda tech support to the list of "less than helpful"
  • Thanks wind, that's what I needed. Houston, I contacted Honda, and tech support said that the cables should not be cut and spliced. I felt that if the wire is standard, stranded, copper wire, then a properly spliced 1 foot section would not be a problem. Hence, this post.
  • I made my own parallel cables so I doubt there is anything special about them... I just used 10 AWG stranded wire, and appropriate boxes, connectors and circuit breaker. Just plug in to two generators with standard 110 plugs (20A) fed into a box with a 30 amp socket. The generators sync up without any apparent problem.
YMMV but it works for me.
  • I wonder if tech support from Honda may be of help. If the wires are special type, measured resistance and such.
