I have used panels in my overhead lights and I like them, but some others prefer the cob style lights. It seems to depend on the light fixtures. Mine have lenses that diffuse the light. If you have lenses that do not diffuse the light you might prefer the cob style lights.
It makes sense to buy a couple and try them, then buy more of the ones you like.
