That piece of wood is from the factory and covers the outside stove that's recessed into the side of the trailer and the gas line. The range is 4-5" off the back wall and that piece is just a filler.

I have sort of an unrelated question though: that piece of wood behind your range. What's the purpose? Was it hiding a gap? Installed by the manufacturer? I ask because I recently replaced my vintage range with a new Atwood range and it left about a 3/4" gap right where that wooden thing was on yours.
