instant hot water...?

Ok so I stumbled across these point of use tankless hot water heaters.
was wondering if it is at all practical to try and attempt this sort of installation in my class A with 50 amp service. I'm not an electrician by any means , but my brother in law is and will help with the electrical aspects.
really just curious right now if it is possible? Any issues to consider? Or maybe there are other products out there similarly geared toward RVing.
I like the idea of losing the weight of the 6 gallon tank and having endless hot water aboard. And saving my propane for cold nights and tasty homemade cooking from my traveling chef (DW)
I'm chin deep in a major renovation of our coach and now would be the time to make any changes like this.
I have no plans on boon docking. But for the rare instance of needing hot water while not connected to 50amp service, I'd hope my 6.5kw Gen would be sufficient.

sorry my clicky making tool is on the fritz.
any feedback would be appreciated.

  • I doubt you will find a usable electric power tankless hot water heater. The ones I have seen in an RV are propane fired. Even when hooked up to 50 amp RV service you have a max. draw on each leg of 50 amp which you would exceed as soon as you turned it on.
  • Hi,

The first problem is that it draws 57 amps. There are some propane units that are starting to work ok. They do save propane--but the best thing to do to save propane is add an electric heater to the existing tank.
  • Many of the new higher end RVs are built using tankless water heaters. It's a new trend in the RV industry so the answers to your questions should be Yes....
