Transfer switch has two input for two power sources and one output for the load.
One input is the default (usually inverter) that is connected until the other source is energized. The transfer switch will sense utility power and switch over to the utilty power source when plugged in. When this power is unplugged it will switch back to inverter power.
Could be connected opposite so that when the inverter is switched on it will switch to inverter power.
Either way there will be no more unplugging and moving cords around.
OP gave very few details on the power system so there could be other issues but should be fine unless there is a lot more to the set up or usage.
