None of my LEDs get "HOT", warm yes but never so hot you can't touch them. The lens on the fixture is never hot either. Then again we never have hook ups or use the lights while charging at higher voltages either. For that you need more expensive regulated LEDs.
If you are worried about the cheap two sided tape dislodging use cob style LEDs. Falcon recently tried some 68 1210 LED cobs and seems to be pretty pleased with them.
