lifter for bed storage Help! UPDATE

Thanks to all for your comments, turns out the solution was as several pointed out: PUSH DOWN HARDER....I did and it worked.
Let that be a lesson and don't overlook the easier solution.

Thank you all again.

(original)
In the process of changing mattresses I lifted the base (for some stupid reason) and the shock lifts froze - up! don't know if they are supposed to catch (if so how do I get them to release? I hope there's a simple fix, or do I need to remove them completely to get the frame back down. Right now the mattress is standing in front of the bathroom....
  • you lifted it up, with no weight on it, after removing the mattress

i don't think anything is stuck or froze

without the counter balance weight, its going to take a whole lot of pull to bring it down

i suggest you get the DW to help you pull it down

or you go around to the side and climb up on the bed platform
it needs some weight on it

to balance against the lift force
  • I've never seen one that had a lock on it. Sounds like yours broke. I'd remove it and get the bed down.
  • What MrWizard said. Same thing happen to me. Just push down real hard and once down have DW sit on the edge of the mattress platform. Then put the matress back on the platfrom.

    There is no lock.
It works like a spring, straightens up when there is no weight on it. You need to apply same force as your mattress weighs. Climb/sit on it, or ask another person to help pulling it down - and put mattress back.

If this doesn't help, then it's broke.
