I have the permanent sanicon and the way it is located I will always have some waste between the 3" valve gate and the unit. The unit reduces the 3" inlet hose down to 1.5" but is centered so the 3" line between the valve and the unit will always have something in it. It it were to fail or I wanted to switch back to the slinky, I will have to deal with it. If you have room, I'd opt for the portable.
