My removable Battery Bank!

Soooo,

I recently installed a 75amp boon docker upgrade converter in my springdale. Its great!!! I had two grp 24 batts from my aljo that i have kept watered and charged...

So, i rigged them up in a removable type tote with a quick connect battery cable.... Pics below

Here is the Tool box!

Drain hole and vent holes drilled... 8 vent holes... and 4 drain holes

cable port...

Group24 box...

With handles cut off.. all but one to allow some spacing...

boxes installed in the tool box, wired up....

6gauge cable with quick connects soldered and heat shrink wrap...

installed on the cable pair on the trailer battery bank...

Connected up...

Stowed... the box weighs 85lbs... Handle easily supports it. The latches are locked with a padlock. Im not to worried about someone running off with it. they'll have to crawl under the rig, cut the huge hardened cable... Drag the sumbeach... and be quick enough to run from my shotgun.. lol

Great idea with the tool box battery case...

I have been doing something similar with a couple of GP24 battery boxes mounted on a small one inch panel in the back of the truck bed. I have a long 4AWG two conductor cable that will plug into my off-road POPUP trailer. This all temp for now but will eventually wire all of this into the truck permanent.

This supports my Ham Radio ops for the truck when by itself and will also add to my POPUP trailer when in camping mod.

Adding battery bank to the truck bed was big brain storm since my 2KW Generator is already sitting there. Takes weight off my trailer tongue area and keeps my Camping and Ham Radio hobbies going...

My ultimate plan was to install two TROJAN T1275 150AH batteries in both locations... That would give a big 600AH battery bank when in camping mode.
I am currently running two groups of 12VDC 85AH Interstate batteries giving me over 300AHs of usable batteries.

Nice mod. I've always wondered about doing a "portable" battery bank like that but had not seen it done. Great idea.
  • Two of my East Penn gel group 24s would weigh 150 pounds. Those interstates are some light batteries. Nice workmanship though.
  • two batteries, only 85 lbs. and only 75 ah? reminds me of years back when we were fishing electric only lakes, we got a bright idea to build a wooden carrier for 2 deep cycle batteries. only issue was we needed a derrick to move it. :)

  • SunElec.com has great prices. However use care to not buy a 200+ watt unit that can not fit onto the roof! They are very large. I had a difficult enough time locating my 120 watt panels on my motorhome roof!

  • Nice mod! That should give you a good bit more power.
    You've already got solar, right?
