You actually have room to make the hole larger and get a nice storage cubby in there. I'm not sure I would use a door there, might be a pain right by the entry. Since you have 12v there for the radio, some cig outlets and USB outlets would be a great place to charge cell phones, iPods, etc. Could leave the cell phone plugged in and hear it ring and grab it from outside without having to go all the way in.
