Outside tv mod

I'm wanting some insight from anyone who might have done this if this mod is a good idea. I'd like to mount an outside tv bracket to the side of my fiver. I bought a portable tv mount with 2 brackets to allow me to move the tv from one location to another. I mounted one in our bedroom and would like to mount the other to the outside of the rv for watching movies outside. Essentially, this would enable me to quickly pop the tv off the mount in the bedroom and bring it outside. My concern is drilling a hole into the outside fiberglass and any issues this might cause. I don't want the hole and weight of the tv to start a delamination issue. Is this a good idea or not. There is an outside coaxial cable jack on the side of the fifth wheel so I feel it's there for a reason and someone must have done this.

  • which rig do you have? I'd call the manufacturer and make sure you get the build specs... My rig has a mount on the outside already.

I had a buddy install a standard wall mount, he used a ton of butyl tape to make sure he had no leaks.. its a clean install. He grabs the TV from the bunkhouse (uses same mount) and hangs it outside.
  • Not to ask a stupid question but are you sure it's an output jack as oppose to an input for cable?

Oh yes. We have brought the tv outside and propped it up on a table. But with kids running around I'd like to be able to attach it to the wall. We've watched regular tv on it, but I can't figure out if I can play a movie from the inside DVD. Luckily DVD players are cheap. I can just buy a portable one if need be and store it under the bed or something.

This is the mount we have

  • On our TT there is a shelf bracket next to the antenna out and the TT came with a shelf, we have put the tv on that shelf before.
