I do this with my Samlex PSW inverter, but use a 20A to 30A plug adapter on the GFI outlet of the inverter and then have a power cable passthrough for it in the floor of the compartment so I don't need to open the door to weather. I had to rewire my main box because the converter was sharing a breaker with another circuit that I wanted to power with the inverter. I simply added another breaker to the box (WFCO), it takes standard QO style breakers. I was using it to run the Microwave when our oldest girl was a baby and wouldn't drink a cold bottle, I could get several warmups out of a 4GC battery bank. Now that our kids don't mind cold drinks we rarely use the inverter, but it powers the TV and other stuff very nicely. I have 4/0 cable run between the inverter and the battery bank with, if I remember right, a 250A fuse, and the inverter is mounted in the front cargo bay with an ethernet style remote cable to the cabin so it can be monitored and powered up or down. It has a load and battery voltage indicator on the monitor.
