Range Hood Redo

The only modification here is re-securing the range hood after it fell off on our next to last trip this season. No doubt the result of driving on washboard roads and too many boondock campsites.

This appeared to be a flawed installation from the factory. After the range hood fell down (luckily in the driveway as we got home!) it was obvious that the original screws did not hit the frame around the opening.

One reason the hood was off center is the diagonal installation. There is limited room near the wall to align the hood to the opening.

I was able to move it over just enough to run screws diagonally so that they hit the framing.

Should probably have upgraded the framing but the RV is in Colorado and we don't have all our tools there yet! Used a box and some books as a third hand to hold the hood while driving the screws into new holes.

In case you are curious, the wire in this photo goes to a wireless cell phone antenna near the dinette, and the cell phone booster behind the stove top is wired through the gas pipe opening to the outside truckers antenna. The wire has fallen down from the hooks that hold it up under the cabinet. Can't keep the 3m hooks from popping off the walls in hot weather.
  • you can put some small bolts in with some fender washers. and bolt it up. other wise cut some lumber glue it up above and install new screws.
  • Glad you got it fixed. I probably would have used moly or toggle bolts.
  • I should have expanded the framing as calumus suggests. Mollies would have held better too if I had to go into the thin stuff, but I was able to hit solid wood on each side. Hope it holds now!
