Replace Water Heater

Has anyone replaced a 6gallon water heater with a 10 gallon water heater. I have a 2007 Cougar fifth wheel and want to replace the 6 gallon water heater with a 10 gallon water heater. My concerns are I don't want to cut into any supporting coach supporting braces to make it fit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Bigger tank requires bigger/deeper hole

Gene&Ginny gave you the hole size needed

Once you cut the side of rig bigger the connections are simple....same stuff
  • Knowing the brand would help.

    Atwood - Cut-out dimensions are:
    • 6 gallon - 16" wide, 12-1/2" high, and 16-7/8" deep.
    • 10 gallon - 16" wide, 15-1/2" high, and 21" deep.

    Suburban - Cut-out dimensions are:
    • 6 Gallon; 12-3/4" high, 12-3/4" wide, 19-3/4" deep.
    • 10 Gallon; 16-3/8" high, 16-3/8" wide, 20-3/4" deep.
  • Does the 10 gallon have a bigger element that would require a bigger wiring circuit?
  • What is the problem? Not enough capacity?

Go LP and electric at the same time and you should never run out of hot water.
