Replacing door windows

My new TT has dark tinted windows except for the doors. I have the tinted and tempered replacements. Just wondering what to use to install and seal them in place. The factory used a putty kind of stuff that was easy to remove. Should I use a silicone or that grey putty stuff that comes on a roll like tape? The silicone might do a great job but would be a pain to remove if needed. Witch one will seal the best for the longest time with the door movement?
  • ALSO,,,, upon taking the new factory windows out I noticed that the seal had gone bad on the bottom and was not sealed on the top on the outside. There was no sealing tape on the inside frame at all so there was already signs of water on the inside door area. My dry climate so no issue. A wet climate would be an issue in a few years, after warranty is gone.
  • I'll pick up the correct mounting tape tomorrow. Do it right the first time, thanks.
  • Do not use silicone unless you don't care about the next time.......

Silicone will not even adhere to itself. Old silicone has to be removed using a silicone remover (solvent) before anything can be used again.

Use the butyl tape (gray stuff on a roll) on frame....tighten screws then remove excess tape that squeezes out.......done
If you want you can use some non-leveling lap sealant around frame edge but not necessary
  • I tinted the door window and just ran a thin bead of clear silicon around the outside of the window. Can't tell it's there.
  • Use the putty tape, remove excess after install and caulk the edge.
