Has anyone ever replaced the hangers on there springs? I think I am going to have to do this soon and have never done it. Is it hard to do and in what order do you start ? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Durhamcutter. I replaced my spring and shock hangers on my 1990 chevy PU. It is alot easier if you remove the PU bed from the chassis. It is not hard but time consuming. The hangers are held on by rivets and are hsrdened. I used an air chissel but if I had one I would have used a cutting torch. The hardest thing was getting the replacement hangers from chevy. It took alot of research by the parts guy and nobody wanted to take the time. Finally found one dealer who's part gut liked a challenge and after about a week he had ordered the rear spring and shock mounts. I reattached them with grade 8 bolts. Good luck nm1oqrz

Are you talking about replacing the spring hangers on the truck or the trailer?If trailer, it's not a bad job but just make sure you have the necessary jacks and jack stands. On tandem trailers you have to fight with the equilizer a bit to keep it from flopping up or down but once you realize how to support both axles it not too difficult. Also, it's much easier if you have help as the axles are heavy. I did mine by myself as a complete rebuild with new leaf springs, hangers, hd equalizers, u-bolts, etc. Would have been much easier if my son would have been available to help.Make sure also that you replace ALL hardware you remove, ie, shackle bolts and nuts, u-bolts, etc, etc, as these parts are considered one time use and should not be reused.If you're talking about your truck, it's even easier.

Thanks sorry I didn't make my self clear about the vehicle it is the 5er, I had to have all of the brackets that the hangers and springs attach to and they failed to put hangers on the trailer,they just attached the spring to the frame brackets so consequently the spring don't work correctly, it is like I have a rigid frame and not independent movement of the springs. The shackle link is the oval shaped piece between the spring eye and the equalizer. It is attached to both pieces by a bolt. That is what I was getting at, there was no shackle link at the location I noted.

The shackle link is the oval shaped piece between the spring eye and the equalizer. It is attached to both pieces by a bolt. The frame brackets that are on the trailer are what the hangers are suppose to attach too and then the springs attached to them it gives the trailer a suspension that works as if it has independent suspension. The trailer came with the hangers but when they replaced the brackets as in the picture the gentleman has posted they attached the spring directly to the brackets on the trailer, when we got the trailer in 2006 it had the hangers on it . When I had to have the new brackets put on the trailer was because the bolts had pulled through the hanger and they found that the brackets were also elongated where the bolt holes were. Hope this makes this a little cleared

I went to longer heavier springs and it wasn't a bad job at all. A cutoff disc in the 4.5 grinder removed them fast. I carefully measured aligned and tack welded before the final weld. The results was WELL worth it.about 6 hours of easy work. Craig

If that is a picture of your RV I would recommend getting the springs replaced with the next higher load rating.
