I think you're right, but one though is if you caulked around the edges/boarders with clear silicone, that "might" keep the moisture out of the adhesive such that it would not be undermined with moisture. Just a thought.
BTW, we just ordered a new trailer and we're gonna be doing this mod down the road behind the stove.
