I saw the Plexiglass idea when searching for ideas. IKEA did it with their fabric in a kitchen. Looked really neat.

This idea is also helpful if I want to change the color scheme, just remove the plexi and put the new fabric/paper design behind it, no messing with chipping off grouting etc.
Another idea using the plexiglass is that you can put photos behind it to personalize. I'm thinking of having a full sheet behind the stove (the stove is far enough away from the wall that it should be safe, plus I only use the stove top during the cool months, summer we cook outside or use a small crockpot) Then to make things simpler have the rest of the plexi go up to just as far as the bottom of the window & tank reading monitor so I won't have to worry about cutouts. I could let it be full on the other side of the window to the back wall, but am considering some sort of shelving in that area, it has the wall of the refrigerator in that space, so kind of a hollow.
